I'll try that, I had to replace the hard disk in the G3 this past
weekend in order to get it running again so maybe my PRAM is
scrambled. For some clarification this how I have the machines
connected:

iMac G3 --> Linksys WRT-54g router (running custom DD-WRT firmware) --

I have also tried going direct from the iMac to the Asante (using the
yellow crossover cable they provide) to the GS so I don't think the
switch/router is causing any problems at this point. I would love to
be able to have the GS talk to my NAS device (netgear ReadyNAS NV+)
since that actually where I have all my GS software images but I am
guessing the Appletalk on the NAS is the newer type that wont work
with the GS at all.

Which version of OS X is best suited for this setup if I want to try
and get it working? I have 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 (and even 10.0 but not
installed) so I can try any of those if one works better than another.
For now though I am going to clear my PRAM and get it working in OS 9
first. Steven mentioned that the Asante boxes are problematic and
suggested a Gatorbox CS. Are these devices available for sale
anywhere? I can't find any info on them.
