How to search for strings

What do the Net Apple IIGS users do to look for strings in files?

I often use GNO/ME to manipulate text files; it has a nice set of tools
including "grep" and "egrep" for finding strings in text files, and the
"vi" editor is handy for certain kinds of editing.

But there are disadvantages to using "grep" from GNO/ME. For one thing,
you have to be in GNO/ME instead of on the desktop. For another, "grep"
in GNO/ME is not too happy with long lines -- such as you'd find in a
typical word processing document where a "line" is really a "paragraph"
because RETURNs are found at the ends of paragraphs, not ends of lines.

Another way is to open a file with ShadowWrite or Hermes (or some other
text editor) and use the editor's "find/replace" tool. But you have to
fire up the editor and load a file before you can do the search. And,
this only works on one file at a time.

I'd like to be able to search for a string in one or more selected text
files, directly from the desktop.

Does anyone know of a desktop tool for searching for strings in files?

Thanks for your time.
