The very first RPG was called "Adventure", and that's where the
term "Adventure games" comes from.
It was developed by Will Crowther and Donald Woods, for a mainframe.
This game introduced the concept of traveling around an environment, collect
treasures, fighting enemies, etc. all using only 2 word commands: a verb and
a noun. Also, everything is handled only with text. No graphics.
I have a version of this game that runs in any Apple II with 48K (in
DOS 3.3).
It came in a disk titled "Golden Oldies", along with 3 other classics
(Eliza, Life and Pong).
With this disk, it was also included a booklet with a history of each game
(and that's where I got the information above).
