Re: 32-bit ProDOS FST
Orion,
I happen to be one of the few blessed with a donation of 100% working
source code for the System 6.0.1 ProDOS FST. (Merlin16+ format, and
=NO= I can =NOT= make it available, sorry folks):
I, and two other (very notable) IIgs programmers, have made some serious
efforts twords cobbling this into a ProDOS-Like file system using words
instead of bytes, longwords instead of words, etc. It looks very do-able,
but it would =NOT= be a bootable file system. (unless a new boot stub
and a bunch of other things were cobbled up)
Somebody is probably going to come along and claim that this can't be
done as you can't add a new FST to GS/OS easily. I have one comment for
those naysayers in advance.... BULL, We've done it already. (Ok, so we
stole the FST ID for the LISA file system, and our FST was functionally identical to ProDOS (with relaxed filenaming rules) but it worked
seamlessly, thereby proving it can be done)
No, we do =not= have a "16 bit version of the ProDOS FST" functioning
now, but we have done a considerable amount of work on coming up with
one. We're working on it as a "when time permits" project, and have =NO=
planned release date... infact if we're not happy with our results it
will never be released.
=NOBODY= should bug me about this, as I will NOT comment further until we
either have something usable and =legally= releasable, or give up on it.
