Too bad you guys/gals aren't logging onto the GEnie A2!  But, I just
started lurking the MISC section here and want to stop what I know is a
very frustrating problem that we hashed over almost two years ago over on
the GEnie....

The problem is NOT the printer and its not the cable.  Its AppleWorks! 
AppleWorks 3.x and earlier WILL NOT print to a slot that has a drive or
device mapped to it.  If you put a printer card in slot 5, AppleWorks
thinks a drive belongs there.  If you bring home, as I did, a 170 meg or
larger drive, AppleWorks will see a partition in slot 1 (well, I guess that
was when I added a second hard disk drive......).  At any rate, AppleWorks
will not print to slot 1 in my situation, because that is AppleWorks!

There are two solutions.  One is a patch to AppleWorks; I seem to recall
that there was a public domain patch in the library, but that was also
addressed on John Link's SuperPatch disk.  While beta testing AppleWorks 4
and 5, I convinced Quality Computer who then convinced Randy Brandt, to
address the problem with those versions.

Short term, for an Apple IIe, move the printer card to slot 1 in the IIe
where it really belongs anyway, or patch your AppleWorks, but leave your
hair IN hour scalp!!!!
