Disc Images IIe to/from MAC

If there is a FAQ that answers this, please point me to it:

A friend has an apple II emulator (software) on his MAC & has several 
disk images which he can 'boot' as if they were real.  Is there any way 
to transfer these via modem to a IIe to creat a 'real' disk that I can 
boot in my IIe?  Also, is there any way I can take a IIe disk and send it 
via modem so he can boot in in his emulator?  We each have terminal 
programs on our machines that can do Xmodem.  The above refers to 5 1/4" 
disks.
