Definitely works for me - I have a jury-rigged paddle/joystick
combination with a switch to select between them.

The MAJOR point to note is that the connector is the other way around:
pin 1 is at the back in the IIgs, at the front in the II+ and IIe.
This can be seen from the position of the notch in the socket.


If you plug the connector in backwards, it isn't likely to do much.  Pin
16 is unused, and this will be where the GROUND line goes if the plug
is backwards.

The joystick/paddle potentiometers will be "powered" from the Switch 3
input (pin 9), which goes to +5V through a 200K pull-up resistor.
This will have no appreciable effect on the paddle/joystick or the
IIgs.
