14 MHz '816 update problem...
I just shoved the neat little WDC 14MHz 65816 into my Zip. Note
I don't have the faster osc yet, so it still is running at 8 MHz.
Boot up the system (P8), mess with a few development things...
works just fine, so I'm sure the chip is good.
Boot up GS/OS. Crash to the monitor. Start sweating.
Shift boot, everything's okay. Verify disks. (1 40 meg
Fujitsu mech in two prodos partitions, 1 80 meg quantum mech
in an HFS partiton.) Disks verify fine. Reboot (no shift)
This time it makes it to the Finder. Verify. Freezes up.
Repeat ad lib. Result seems to be that the system will
freeze (vbl mouse still active) or crash to the monitor
randomly on disk access, sometimes even when shift booting.
I notice the crash is always to 02/7c3d, seemingly part
of the RamFAST driver. Uh oh. Reshiftboot, remove RamFAST
driver from System folder. No effect. Decide to post here...
Has anyone had these kind of strange problems with the
14 Mhz chips? My system only messes up on disk access,
occasionally, but enough to make the system unusable.
I know it seems like I've just twisted my SCSI cable one
too many times again and confused the RamFAST, but I'm
posting here anyway because it ordinarily takes two
or three days to get help...
thanks,
