As usual, our good friend in New Zealand has helpful information to
impart. I always enjoy reading David Empson's *excellent* responses.

What I am attempting to do, and I guess I wasn't too clear in my first
message, is to use a "drop caps" effect where I employ a large capital
letter as an introduction to each paragraph. Example:

______
| |et all good men
| L |join to the party
|____|of their choice.

When I attempt to do the above, I cannot seem to keep the "L" space free
from the remaining text; the text will not "stay out of" the capital L's
space. This happens, too, when I use a small clip-art graphic; the text
runs right through the small graphic at the beginning of a paragraph. I
would like to be able to have the text "run around" the "L" and the
clip-art.

Many thanks, David, for your most complete help and suggestions. If
there is a solution to the above set of problems, I'd appreciate your
guidance!

Warmest wishes come to you from Raleigh, North Carolina.
