Hold on a second... 

The original version of Photonix was shareware.
 
Then several years ago, Olivier Goguel wrote Photonix II, and that was not
shareware. Instead, Olivier Goguel entered into an agreement with Big Red
Computer Club, and Photonix II v2.4 has been available exclusively from
BRCC for only $15.
 
Although I do not have any information about the current legal
status of Photonix II, I imagine that Big Red's lawyer might have an
opinion.
