Re: Micro$loth Windoze 95 Badges - how they should be

Hmmm. So, Graeme says that Window 95 is equivalent to Mac 87, eh, what?
I suggest that he compare the two operating systems side-by-side. He
should compare the following:

1) Attractiveness and sophistication of the user interface.

2) Ergonomics provided by the right mouse button (what right mouse
button?)

3) The latest Mac OS uses cooperative multitasking just as Windows 3.1
did. Windows 95 uses mainframe-style preemptive multitasking for its
native applications just as NT and OS/2 do.

4) The latest Mac OS has a single message thread while Windows 95 has
multiple threads. With the Mac, if an application hangs while
responding to a message, the whole system hangs.

Yes, indeed, MS is now claiming that Windows 95 is document centric just
as the Mac is, not that I see much difference in this area, and one can
now plant items on the desktop, just as one can with the Mac. The
shell, indeed, does look and work more like the Mac shell. But there's
a lot more to an OS than its shell.

As for the stability issue, I've found Windows 95 to be very stable,
indeed, at least as stable as my friends' Macs if not somewhat moreso.
They're both stable.

The big difference is that there's lots more software and hardware
available for this platform than for the Mac. Don't get me wrong, mate.
I don't despise the Mac. I don't feel threatened by the Mac. I just
think one should get one's facts straight.
