I don't think this is a problem with the syquest. I think it is a
problem with the RamFAST.

This is EXACTLY the symptoms I get with my RamFAST, an Apple CD-150
CD-ROM drive, and the Golden Orchard CD-ROM.

I have a IIgs with RamFAST in slot 7 and a hard drive with terminator.

I got the CD-150 and the Sequential discQuest Encyclopedia. I removed
the terminator from the hard drive, connected the CD-150 to the hard
drive, and put the terminator on the CD-150. The SCSI ID for the CD-150
was set to 1 and the SCSI ID for the hard drive was 5. The computer
booted up okay and I had to tell the RamFAST about the new CD-ROM.

The disQuest Encyclopedia worked as advertised.

When the Golden Orchard CD-ROM arrived in the mail I popped it in the
CD-150 drive. Nothing. I went to the RamFAST scsi utilities and made
active all seven of the Golden Orchard's partitions. Then I could open
any partition from the desktop, no problem.

But if I did anything else (run the discQuest Encyclopedia, re-start
the computer, whatever) I found that the RamFAST had forgotten the
Golden Orchard partitions. They were still there, but they had become
inactive. If I re-activated them then I could see them again as before.

The only solutions I can come up with are:

1) Replace the RamFAST with an Apple High Speed SCSI card to run the
   hard drive and the CD-150.

2) Continue to use the RamFAST with my hard drive and install an
Apple High-Speed SCSI card in another slot for the CD-150.

3) Get a different CD player.

Since the RamFAST is much faster than the Apple HS SCSI for most things
I am reluctant to follow option 1.

Since my IIgs' slots are pretty much filled up by now, I am reluctant
to follow option 2.

Since a different CD player would cost money and I don't know that it
would work any better anyway, I haven't seriously considered option 3.

So I too await enlightenment from Net readers.

My II cents.
