Apparently there is some sort of math calculation software (from MIT if I
recall correctly) that as of a couple of years ago, was up to something
like V. 156!
I think the kernel of thought that some are missing (all puns intended) is
that previous versions of the Macintosh system software have been referred
to by Apple as "System 7.X or System 6.X, etc." and the term "Mac OS" is
new. The argument that Copland may be "Mac OS v.1" is further supported by
the fact that it may be the first commercially available version of
Macintosh software that does not require Mac ROMs to run (if you do not
include the hacked "Pippin" game player OS.)
