They don't?  Tell that to my Apple IIgs. :-)  It's been running non-stop for 
the last three years, barring power outages.  I have a BBS running on it.
I hold to the "leave it on all the time" theory, anyway.  Less wear on the 
switch and the circuitry from constant power cycles, and as long as you have
the cooling fans to get rid of the heat it produces, it's not hurting
anything.
