ICE
I too have just sampled the ICE Icon Editor from the latest GS+ Magazine
and although I must agree that it works well I have two "problems" with
it:
1. It uses this little window that can only show 3 icons (both large and
small) with next to it all the information regarding the selected icon.
Now I happen to be a auxiliary type lover and I use a icon file that
identifies all the filetypes and auxiliary file types that I know off. At
last count this file was more than 150K big and housed some 180 icons
(could be more, could be less, you don't really expect me to count all of
them do you?). Individual icons for programs do not interest me. I
previoiusly used IconEd which gave me a window that showed me a large
portion of my icons so I could easily look for a certain icon etc... This
is not possible with ICE. I also like the fact that IconEd does not
bother you with the settings for an icon, but only shows them when
requested so (by pressing command-E). So it seems for the moment I will
continue to use IconEd regardless of all its bugs.
2. ICE has its own icon for icon files in its resources which is installed
inthe desktop file at startup of ICE. Thus replacing my own icon for icon
files which I like better than ICE's. I tried replacing ICE's internal
icon with my own, but it seems that ICE refuses to open itself. It showed
a different color for itself than for the other extended files in the File
Open dialog and refuses to do anything when double clicked. I am still
looking for a solution but I will get there I'm sure.
P.S Before anybody bombards my with any mails, YES, I did not read the
manual. I only read the article in GS+ and have already forgotten most of
it. I just like to break in new programs the difficult way, after all if
you have all the answers already where's the fun?
