That's what prompted my question. Ordinarily, I'd unplug an electrical 
device before examining the entrails, but I recall several sources that 
suggested leaving a computer connected: the exposed voltages are 
harmless, and a solid ground is a convenient ESD path. Some memory & 
processor upgrades even included an inexpensive ground strap.

I look forward to learning the outcome of your "transplant".

stripes; well, horizontal ones anyway. :-)
