I know there's at least one shareware Mac offline reader that some people
swear by. It's called Online Servant. I'm not much into Macs, so I can't
give a lot of information. I have a 486 PC (and use emulators to run my old
Apple IIe and C-64 software).

GEnie's rates really are much more simple (and cheaper) now. They still have
a way to go, but they are at least working on it. $7 an hour at up to 14.4K
via Sprintnet. A $2/hour discount if you use GEnie during non-Business hours
(evenings 6pm to 8am and weekends) and a further $2/hour discount if you use
GEnie's own low speed network (2400 baud or less) instead of sprintnet. The
monthly fee of $8.95 gets you 4 "free" hours evenings and weekends on the low
speed network. It's still a bit more expensive than AOL, but it is MUCH less
expensive than it used to be (and in the same price range as CIS).
