Of course, it takes a huge amount of effort to support and maintain
something like the info-mac mailing list and archives or, to a lesser
degree, the Apple II archives at Cal Tech.

If you have cheap (or free) internet access, there's not much point to
using a commercial online service unless you have a specific need for one
of the services only they provide.
