ZIP drive
Could someone tell me if I could partition the Iomega ZIP drive with
one ProDOS volume, one HFS volume, and one MS-DOS volume? Right know I have
two IIgs's one IBM PC clone, and one malfunctioning Mac 128 (which is to say
nontioning since it's the 3.5 that's the problem). My IIgs has a RamFAST
reSI, the clone has a Media Visions Pro Audio Spectrum 16 card with
SCSI interface, and a the Mac 128 is a paperweight at the moment.
Anayway, if I were to buy the ZIP, I'd like to beable to transfer and
archive files from all my computers (future computers included) while
retaining their original file system. The IIgs and Mac can read and write
ProDOS and HFS volumes, the IIgs can read MS-DOS volumes with System 6.0.1 and
R/W with products from SHH Systems (although I'm not sure if this applies to
SCSI drives, if not it should), the IBM clone can R/W HFS volumes given the
right software. I'll have to find a way to attach the drive to the PAS16 card
in my IBM clone, but that shouldn't be to difficult. I'll just need a cable
to connect the 50-pin internal connector to a 25 or 50-pin external port
depending on the ZIP.
Does anyone have a clue as to whether the above is possible, and
whther it's practical? Although if a resonably impractical solution exists
I'll take it. I've been holding off on getting a backup device in the hopes
that the price of floptical/MO drives with 128+Mb capacity would drop
considerably and that the IIgs would be able to support them. But this ZIP
drive looks like a sound investment.
BTW, what would be the procedure and cost for upgrading or trading in
my (two) 256K rev. C RamFAST for a (two) latest revision 1Mb RamFAST?
