The Question should go back a step further, Why did Apple Make the Duo
Drive.  The card and cable were flakey at best and the drives were always
screwed up.  The Apple 5.25" drive at least was a separated drive so if
one went bad you could still use the other.  Eject problems were worst
with Labels and Label on Labels.  The thicker the disk, the harder it was.

I do like the Disk ][ though.  The head moved by means of a plastic spiral
groove.   The only real problem with this is that it got dirty and the
head would stop moving.  Easy fix though.
