IR>I have an enhanced IIe with an aging Applied Engineering clock, two
IR>140k drives (one 15+ years old), an Apple RAM card with 512k.
IR>Question... what can be done to "push the envelope" on this machine?
Add an accelerator card or chip to make it go faster. Add 3.5", CD ROM,
Hard Drives and flopticals to expand disk capabilities. Add an RGB
monitor and card for better video. Add a Mockingboard (or other) sound
card for better sound. There's plenty more.
IR>How fast can it be made to go?
Well, I know that with the TransWarp GS you can get in excess of 12MHz.
The Zip Chip goes 8MHz max, I think. There are others out there, too.
(I'm not sure if the non-TWGS can be fixed to go faster, tho.) Let's
see...I think there was a Titan card, and a Rocketchip, and more...
IR>What about hard drives?
Well, you can use SCSI drives with a SCSI card (Apple SCSI Rev C, Apple
Hispeed SCSI, RAMFast SCSI or MultiKache card to name a few). You can
use IDE HDs with the TurboIDE card. Or, you can go find some old,
proprietary Apple HD like the Vulcan, Sider, or ProFile and hope it'll
still work...:)
IR>How much would this cost me?
How much would WHAT cost you?
IR>I want to see what can be done as it has been awhile since I've used it
IR>seriously.
The more specific you get about what you want to do, the more we can
help...
IR>Can it handle high speed modems (oh, I have a Super Serial Card and a Grappl
IR>as well)? ETc., etc.
Yes. With the SSC you can go up to either 14.4k or 28.8k, and with the
Turbo ASB add-on you can go up to 57.6K! What more do you want? :)
Give what you would like to receive,
Glenn
