Don't get mad!!
When compared to other machines the Apple 2 now-a-days; dare I say it? Sucks. It's true, I know, I have one. I have Two IIGS's
(With a hard drive, and an accelerator not a bad machine).
But, in the appleII mode I cringe.
I obtained some games for the 8 bit mode and was shocked by
the crudness of it all. I couldn't help but wonder what it was
like when these games were released. Oh well, there were always
text based applications like Apple works. A very nice program.
People are dedicated to the machines they used for a long time.
If it does for them what they want it to do then what else do they need.
All I'm saying is it's old tech. And doesn't hold up anymore.
I had a C64. C64 Graphics are a big improvement over the
standard Apple 2. However, the C64 OS sucked and the disk drive
was sooooo slow. With a modification the cassette tape drive could be
made to run faster than the disk drive. Yuk.
I also own an Atari Mega ST for MIDI work. A nice little machine and
have had a 486DX for a short time but brought it back to best buy.
It wasn't bad but I didn't want to face buying all new software again!
Once I came to my senses an realized what I had done, I took it back.
In addition I own an Amiga 3000 (the best home computer! Bar none)
I ran a Mac by emulation on my Amiga. I liked the Mac quite a bit.
BTW. The mac emulation was a hardware emulator and a liitle bit slower
than an equiv 68030 mac, but I'm not comparing speed. I could switch
between the MAC and Amiga with a key-mouse combination while
they were both running! Multitasking is Great!
If they could get the GS to run more like the mac's OS it would improve
the GS by quite a good bit. Right now perhapes, the "manager"
(I think this is what it's called) brings it closer.
In my opinion though. The Amiga is somthing else! Fantastic!
I can and do run 4 to 5 applications at the same time. They are all
active too. I run, all at the same time, a:
Terminal prog,
DataBase,
Text editor or Word Processor,
Directory Utility
and several small utilities all while I'm on-line!
It's too bad it doesn't have the software support the PC or even the Mac
has. This is the most important aspect of the whole story. and it's true
of the A2 and GS also.
The Mac is a close second to the Amiga and can hold it's own
on Graphics manipulation. But, No Home computer can beat the OS and the built-in 4 proccesor hardware of the Amiga! An absolute joy to Use.
I know, I've used them all.
