Menu time for Finder

I picked up an NDA dated 1988 called MENUTIMEHMS.NDA that I expected to
put the time in the Finder's menubar at the top right.  It caused my
system (running 6.0.1) to hang.  (expected, since it's from 1988).  Is
there an init that will put the running time in my menubar, or are we
without this feature?  Thanks for any help.

BTW, I have 'clock'.  What I want is something that's permanent and out
of the way.
