Fix 5.25 count. Doesn't work for me.

I got the patch "Fix 5.25 count" off of the caltech ftp site a few days 
ago.  This is a patch that is suppose to solve the problem of having two 
5.25 drive icons show up on the desktop, even if you only have one 5.25 
drive attached.  I tried it out and instead of removing the extra icon, 
it removed both of them!  Has anybody had success using this?  What might 
I be doing wrong?
