Even with the short cable, you can still fit it into a ROM 1 GS.
You'll notice that the cable disconnects at both ends, and is symmetric.
Thus, if you flip it at both ends, it acts normal. I was feeling really
paranoid one day, so here's how I flipped over my cable:

- Mark "Northwest" corner of ZIP 65816 socket
- Mark "top right" corner of ZIP connector (when looking at card flat-on)

- Flip cable so that the mark is on the SE corner of the 65816 socket,
and on the bottom left end of the Zip connector.

This let me put my Zip in slot 1 without any problems whatsoever.
Just be careful, flip both sides, and you're in great shape.
