One Half of a GS

 Some  time  ago, my ROM 1  IIGS stopped running  some  of my 8 bit  programs.
 (Appleworks 1.2 and a Lucas Films game on a 5 1/4 disk).I threw this question
 at  half a  dozen  people  and tried  all the  control panel settings, system
 speed, display etc. The  Appleworks program  hangs at the "press  spacebar to
 continue" prompt. It just  beeps at any key imput. (This  happened to me on a
 IIc once, but I can't for the life of  me remember what I did to fix it). The
 Lucas game runs but keeps firing like the joystick button was being held down
 The disks run fine on other Apples,  and the  keyboard and joystick work when
 switched to other machines.I  finally gave up  and bought another GS cpu. The
 "Bad"  GS runs all GSOS programs just fine. Has this  happened to anyone else
 out there?
