Re: Apple IIGS

I work with Macs (SE/30 to the IIci, LC-II, and PBs) and GS's everyday
and I'd have to say it depends on what you're doing. As far as
run of the mill games and productivity software they're pretty
comparable, which makes sense as GS stuff was written to run within
the hardware resources of the GS and vice versa. The descrepencies
show up in that there are far more sophisticated software packages
available for the Macs than for the GS. On the flip side the GS (IMHO)
is MUCH easier to hack on and tinker with, and is just plain fun.
However, that depends on what you do for fun. For example we're
having a blast over in the lab right now putting a new experimental
system together and buried amongst the coax, cables, interface
boxes and plumbing is a GS making sense of it all. We'd never try
to drop a Mac on any sort into such a mess. Once the bugs are all
worked out and we've got the whole thing running over a serial line
_then_ we'd use a Mac, or IIc+, or Tandy laptop, or whatever the
program sponsor wants. And at home, we've decided to stick with our
GS's for now (one for the kids, another for me). One day we'll get
something new, but so far the market hasn't offered anything we
just gotta have we don't have already. To each their own :)

Have fun!
