from what i've seen, specialty battery stores carry a suitable battery, a 
3 volt lithium N cell. i think i've even seen them in camera stores.
(just don't quote me on this - i could be wrong :)
i've got 8 odd years on my battery so i can expect to test my theory in 
the not too distant future.
