HELP-ScannerProblems

We are running a MacIIsi with a Scanmaker IIsp from Microtek
off software: Plug-In (ver2.1.0) in Photoshop (ver 2.5) and this 
is what is going on:

Plug-In does not recognize or aquire scanner model #
and ready lamp on the scanner blinks on/off

We have most basic ideas for solutions with no availe. We need
help and we need it now, any assistance would be much appreciated.;-)
