Yes, I booted both the System 6.0.1 Disk (as per the other responder's
advice) and Copy II Plus. I tried "Verify Disk" under Copy II Plus
and I every block has an error. The other low level utilities
produce similar results. Whenever these programs operate, the disk
light comes on as expected, just no data arrive. Also, whenever
a floppy based program tries to read the disk (such as when booting
ProDOS) the light flashes a couple of times, and it hangs for a
few seconds.

Also, every few hours (?), the disk light comes on by itself and it
seems to "reset" itself; that is, it makes the same sounds it does on
power up.

I've pretty much given up on the possibility that it still works. :)
Is there anybody who fixes these things? How much do they cost these
days? I paid $400 for this three years ago. Unless I can get one
cheap or get it fixed, I'll probably just run off floppies.
