Err, um, I think I boo-boo'd earlier. The Apple /// came out in Sept.
'80 for $3,495. The Mac came out in Jan '84 for $2,495. The //e came
out in Jan '83 for $1,395 and the Lisa for $9,995. Going back, the
Apple I was put out in July '76 for $666.66 (Hmmmm!). The Apple II came
out in June '77 for $1,298. The Disk II came out in June '78 (no price
given). The Apple //+ came out in June '79 for $1,195, at the same time
as the Silentype. Apple ProFile (5Mb) came out in Nov '82 for $3,499.
In Dec. '82 Apple was the first pc co. to reach $1 billion annual sales
rate. The Imagewriter came out in Dec '83 for $675. The Mac came out
in Jan. '84 for $2,495. The //c came out in April '84 for $1,295, and
in the same month the /// was discontinued. The LaserWriter came out in
Jan '85 for $6,999 and AppleTalk Personal Network for $50. AppleLink
started in July '85. Mac Plus and LaserWriter Plus unleashed Jan '86
for $2,599 and $6,798 respectively. The //gs came out in Sept (amid
much secrecy) '86. The Platinum //e came out in Jan '87 for $829. Mac
SE and Mac II introduced in March '87 (no prices). LaserWriter II
started in Jan 88. AppleCD SC in March '88. //c+ in Sept '88 for
$1,099. GS/OS also introduced at that time for $39, as well as the Mac
IIx, and the FDHD (Floppy Drive High Density - 1.44Mb). Apple II Video
Overlay Card in April '89. 1Mb //gs Aug '89 for $1,149. Mac Portable
and Mac IIci in Sept '89. Hispeed SCSI card in March '90, as well as
the Mac IIfx. Mac Classic, LC and IIsi released April '90. Hypercard
//gs released Dec '90 for $99. The //e card for the Mac LC shipped in
March '91 for $199. Apple CD SC Plus ships in June '91 for $799. 3.5
Controller card (Superdrive) released Nov '91, which also supports the
UniDisk and 3.5 drives. And, my favorite:
April 1990: "In a videotaped message to educators in the United States,
Apple reaffirms its commitment to Apple II users, and to bridging the
gap between Apple II and Macintosh lines. John Sculley promises that a
future, entry-level, color Macintosh will have an option to run Apple II
software."
And that was made real with the LC. But ya gotta laugh.
All the above info from the "Apple II Guide" 1992 edition. Don't you
wish you'd never asked?
Give what you would like to receive,
