Thanks for the suggestion!  That does sound like a way to save $$.

BTW, someone else was talking about a possibly loose power supply connector
in another thread.  That could have been my problem.  I unplugged it to
check power (which was ok).  After I plugged it back in, it hasn't failed.
The green light was on when it failed, but that may be run off 5V, and the
12V could have been the problem.  (So I'm guessing.  :-)
