Yes. If the printer is switched off when the computer boots, the
computer won't be able to locate the printer at first.
I have a similar setup (ROM 3 IIgs, System 6.0.1, with AppleTalk
ImageWriter using Apple's card). I can turn on the printer after the
computer, and it appears in the Net Printer control panel about 30
seconds later.

Which version of System Software are you using? What program were you
printing from?
