Anyone preparing a guide to online software?

I am trying to locate an ftp on which a collection of abstracts concerning
it's Apple 2 holdings might be found.  This is a feature that I find very
appealing over on the Mac ftp sites - each directory contains a file of
short summaries of each program since the name seldom lends itself to knowing
what is inside.

Anyone aware of any such effort for the Apple II?  Certainly Compuserve and
GEnie have this built into them - but big archive sites like caltech and
umich, and grind would benefit as well.
