Well, I solved the BOOT5/BOOT6 problem, and now have a nice quick way to
get from GS/OS into any self-booting stuff. It was that "CREATE" schtuff.
Many people have suggested that I look into ProBoot, and I think I'll go
trawling for it. Others have suggested that I do a lot of mucking about
with the SLOTS CDA, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid by writing
BOOT6 and BOOT5.
So that part of the problem is solved. That leaves my other difficulty,
in that KERMIT.65, which is supposed to work with either ProDOS or DOS
3.3, doesn't seem to work under GS/OS. So thank goodness for the DOS 3.3
FST so that I can download files with Kermit, then port them to the hard
drive for unbinscii'ing and unshrinking.
Several people have suggested GS-specific terminal programs to solve my
problem of needing VT100 emulation, with TELCOM and ZLINK the
front-runners. This brings up a new problem.
Doesn't anybody maintain the archives? I've been downloading from the
wustl.edu and MERIT archives, and keep running into trouble...line length
errors, header problems, and in general, corrupted archives. And worse
yet, archives which are not what they claim to be: I downloaded
"ZLINK.BSQ" only to find that it contained a corrupted copy of "GSCII.SHK"
which I had already downloaded!
So the question is this--Where can I find an uncorrupted copy of Telcom or
Zlink? Any suggestions? I'd appreciate any tips!
Thanks!
