Are you sure it didn't say "SEG.RM"? This is the memory driver used
by AppleWorks when running on the IIgs. It might not be included on
the standard AppleWorks 4.0 5.25" boot disk, which is reasonable
because 99% of people using AppleWorks 4.0 on a IIgs will be running
it from a 3.5" drive or hard drive, and there probably isn't enough
space on a 5.25" disk to include it.

Check that the SEG.RM file is on the AppleWorks startup disk. If it
isn't, see if any of the files SEG.00, SEG.AM or SEG.XM are there.
These are drivers for other memory cards (auxiliary 64k bank,
auxiliary slot multi-bank and standard slot "slinky").

Assuming SEG.RM is missing, but is on one of the other disks, then make
sure you are working from a COPY of your AppleWorks disks, and delete
any of the aforementioned files to make room for SEG.RM, then copy it
to the startup disk from whichever of the other disks it is on.

Your AppleWorks 4.0 disk should then boot happily on the IIgs.

(I've only seen the 3.5" version of AppleWorks 4.0, which has all
files on the same disk, so I don't know if this is the reason for your
problem, but it seems like the most likely answer.)
