I know the ORCA tools are good and everything, but I'm not really in a financial position to be buying software at the moment. Thus, I'm looking for free tools to play around with. Hypercard IIgs appears to have been released as freeware by Apple and (obviously) there's Applesoft BASIC for quick and dirty 8-bit programs, but what about a solution for producing good native code? Are there any free C or Pascal compilers available? Are there any good free tools for ASM coding?
I can't remember if the free version of GSoft BASIC is still available or not. It had some minor limitations over the full version. The other problem is that it doesn't really generate "native" code as it is an interpreted language.
There are several assemblers available. Lisa, NinjaForce and I believe the one from Nibble might be available for download as well. Merlin should be available now too.
I'm sure Bill will be by to extol the virtues of Aztec C.There is also cross development packages like cc65 for C development and ca65 for assembly.
I'm sure there are others.
