Appletalk between GS and PC ?

HI to GS world from Russia!

I have heard about one year ago, maybe even in this conference
that someone tried to setup a little home network between GS and
IBM using IIGS serial port in Appletalk mode and some IBM
Appletalk card.

I can imagine that may be _very_ impressive solution for IIGS,
giving it a possibility to boot from server, fast file transfer,
etc!

One person in a russian MAC conference told me about DAYNA
Appletalk card for PC but he writes it is expensive ($230). Maybe
anyone knows less expensive alternative? I heard about possible
problems in supported appletalk protocols, because GS uses some
old version (Really, I am not sure, I am not a MAC networking
expert).

Also, maybe anyone wrote some client-server software to link these
computers via regular PC's serial COM port. Of course, that can be
done by pair of a communication programs, but it is not an elegant
way (some handwork,19200 limit and so on)

And I heard a few words about Apple Workstation card for II, so is
it really Arcnet, Ethernet or simply Appletalk? Is it discontinued
from Apple ?
