Problem with Hard Drive
I connected a hard drive to my Apple //e sometime ago, but I could't fit the
connector at the end of the ribbon cable of the HS SCSI card in the opening
at the back of the computer, so I decided to run the cable outside
the machine closing the cover right on top of the cable (and I have an RGB
monitor on top of the computer too).
Could this damage the cable?
The fact is that the drive worked fine for about a week but now it doesn't
want to boot. When I turn on the computer, control is passed to the Unidisk
I have in slot 6 (the HD is in slot 7). If I try booting with "PR#7" the
system says: "SCSI BOOT ERROR".
But once PRODOS is loaded, it does recognize the HD and I can read and write
to it perfectly.
I ran SCSCIVERIFY on its two (32 meg) partitions and it reports no errors.
I disconnected and connected everything several times without no success.
I can't thing of a reason other than the ribbon cable got damaged.
But is it possible that a damage of this type (snap closing the computer's
cover on top of it) only affect the booting mechanism?? and keep in mind
the drive did boot fine for a week in that condition.
What else could be the problem?
If the cable is the problem, can I get a new cable somewhere and install it
myself?
Thank you for your help.
