That very much depends on the application I guess...  1024x768 on a
good 15" monitor with edge-to-edge flat tube is still too small... try
to work with it for 5 minutes typing up a paper...  tell me what you
think.   800x600 is just about right.  (still on the hard to see side)

Just couple of days ago I asked Jawaid what kind of refresh rate
would SS support at various resolutions.  Jawaid said VESA standards,
so it should flicker free.

Stay away from those cheap 14" monitors!  They'll mess your eyes up.
(there are of course some good 14" ones)

Yeah, tech specs always get me high too...  I hope the real thing will
be delivered soon.
