HP has two inkjet lines: the DeskJet and the DeskWriter. The
DeskJets will print from most Prodos-8 programs (AWKS, Proterm) as
well as from GS/OS programs (AW GS, Spectrum). The DeskWriters can
only print from GS/OS. Both DJs and DWs require a printer driver to
print from GS/OS programs.
Of the two, the DJs are the preferred choice of most IIgs owners.
As to buying a parallel card, as you stated, for the current crop of
DJs, it is almost required as they only have parallel ports; could
get a serial to parallel converter. The current DWs do have serial
ports.
