Someone gave fairly complete instructions for connecting the standard
shift-wire mod, but got it slightly wrong.

The annunciator on the paddle port is a software controlled digital
OUTPUT.  This does you very little good.  The standard shift-wire mod is
actually connected to Paddle Button #2 on the game port.  Unfortunately, I
don't have that pin number handy at this moment...

I can understand how AN#3 got into the discussion, though...to enable
double-hi-res graphics on a 128k ][e, you enable the 80-column firmware,
then turn AN#3 *off*.

Applesoft does not watch the game port for the shift wire, but many
programs do...word processors, terminal programs, etc.  I know that Ascii
Express checks the paddle port, I'm not sure about other programs.
