Oh, really? I have an unaccelerated IIgs running desktop-based comms
software (Spectrum), with some timer-based interrupts going in the
background and AppleTalk enabled (but idle), and I'm running reliably
at 19200 (including 16800 connections with error correction to one
BBS). I haven't had file transfers going faster than about 1500 cps
yet (15000 bps).
In a "cleaner" environment (e.g. booting ProDOS-8 and no AppleTalk),
it should be possible to achieve 38400 bps or maybe even 57600 bps on
an unaccelerated IIgs.
