This must be done by some extension you have added.  It sounds like it
doesn't handle custom menus properly.  In this case, it is likely to
cause problems with many other programs that use Color menus (or other
types of custom menu).  I suggest you get rid of this extension.

Another possibility is a conflict between a couple of extensions.

Only by patching Finder in some way, and no I don't know how or where
to look.  It might be as simple as modifying some resources, but then
again it might not.

As I said, you are likely to have similar problems with other programs.

Just to prove it: does the problem go away if you shift-boot (to
disable all extensions)?
