System 6.0.1 is the current GS/OS and can be found at ftp.apple.com
(directory names are like dts and aii).  Or can be ordered from
Quality, Alltech and others places for between $15-$35 ($35 with
manual from Alltech).  The ftp download is 5 or 6 disks.

To get the most use out of 6.0.1, a hard drive is really necessary. 
There are two good SCSI cards, Apple High Speed and RAMFast.  The
RAMFast is much faster (at least in P8), can supply termination
power, and probably more importantly, is still being supported.  If
the extra speed is not really necessary, and if the SCSI chain is
going to stay simple, the Apple HS is not a bad choice.  I have the
Apple HS with 4 different type components attached and I am pretty
happy.

Decent sized (170-270 meg) external hard drives can be had for under
$260.  I live quite happily in 240megs.

I use WPGS (2.1e) for my coursework and use ShadowWrite (a freeware
NDA wordprocessor) for simple text designs that require font changes.
Pointless is a great commercial truetype font program.

In my Proterm 3.1 manual, there is a listing for a USR Courier
HST/HST.  I'd suggest calling InTrec and asking for the proper init
string, or just work it out yourself if you have the time and are
slightly insane.

Does anybody out there have the list of must accessories for 6.0.1?
