Do you have children? More directly, do you have children in the age
catagory that is at issue here? I have a 4th grade daughter, a 2nd grade
daughter, and a preschooler. There is more than enough time left after
puberty for them to learn, and use profane words. My daughters know
profanity when they hear it, but does that mean it is something that they
should have to tolerate @ school while becoming enlightened with the
educational value of the internet? This is not a bar nor a bar-like
environment in the profane sense that you are implying, or things would
digress much more than they do. I admit that I may not have the vocabulary
that I would like to have, though I have enough of one that I don't have to
resort to profanity to get my point across with the feelings I intended.
Maybe the standards in Finland are such that they encourage profanity at
young grade school ages, but here in the midwest (USA) metropolitan areas,
the only children and parents I have noticed using profanity on a regular
basis are the lower middle class and below that have below average
education and/or grades. There are exceptions of course, but this is the
trend I have observed. I don't think the average parent wants their
children at this age to experience this type of language anywhere, anymore
than they have to. I leave you with only two questions. Is profanity REALLY
necessary in our public posting? Couldn't everyone TRY to restrict their
profanity to e-mail when they deem it necessary to be used? Thanks for your
time and I hope you take this as contructive criticism not as hate mail.
