I'm wondering if perhaps anyone could write something of a
'profanity alert' program that could be installed on a server.
The way it might work is, the individual users could have the
option to activate it on his or her account.  Then, whenever
the system comes across any off-color language, whether it be
profanity or racist, the offending word would then be either
blanked out with **** or be substituted with a less offensive
word.  There could also be a profane dictionary that you could
add on to whenever the system comes across something that you may
consider offensive which others may not.
Since it is wholly up to the end user to select whether to make
use of this program, there would be no censorship involved as
those of us who aren't offended by profanity would not be forced
to use it.
Does this sound like a reasonable compromise, and is there anyone
out there who would be interested in writing such a program if
it's at all possible?
