Looking for Software

Hello.  I am rather new to this Newsgroup.  I am using a 1.25M
GS with an 800k 3.5" drive and a 140k 5.25" drive; in other words
a very basic stock system.
I am currently learning C via the Apple II University course that
I downloaded from GEnie last year.  What I am looking for now is
a shareware C compiler that is compatible with the GS.  Can
anyone direct me to an FTP site that has such a compiler?
Additionally, I am also looking for a shareware 65816 assembler
and a shareware GIF converter/viewer that can:

 a:  Handle GIFs that are larger than 2 screens high, and
 b:  Convert GIF89 format graphics.

The only GIF converter I have at the moment is SHRConvert, which is
fine for smaller GIFs and GIF87a graphics.  However, I have DLed
many GIFs that are just too large for SHRConvert and end up losing
alot of the image, even when I use Fix Aspect Ratio to reduce the
height by 50%.

Can anyone help me here?  This is our most desperate hour...
Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi...  ahem...  sorry.  :)
