I don't think that the extra row is the problem.  Many other
people have used skinny SRAM's in the zip.  In fact, that is
all that is available in the faster speeds.  I think it is 
how the different manufacturer's chips respond to differing
amounts of noise that makes the difference.  Low power SRAMS
are also known to work _much_ better.  My chips are NOT low
power, and it is out of sheer stubbornness that I'm trying
to get them to work at all!

The traces are very fine by the SRAMs, and very easy to overheat
and lift off the board, so be careful!
