You can use either type - the 9th bit is ignored.

Nope.  All SIMMs must be the same type.

You can install 1, 2, 4 or 8 SIMMs of either type (you must use the
correct sockets).

Another point: if 8 SIMMs are installed (either size), the OctoRAM is
not DMA compatible unless you are using a RamFAST.
